What is Dry Eye Syndrome?
Dry Eye Syndrome is a common condition caused as a result of an imbalance in the tear film that lubricates and protects our eyes. Our tear film consists of three layers – the mucin, aqueous and lipid layer and an imbalance of these layers causes reduced tear quality which leads to discomfort, burning, redness and even blurry vision. One of the commonly known causes of this imbalance is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, other causes include environmental factors, medications and contact lenses. The common treatment options include tear replacement drops, lid scrubs and warm compresses.
A New Treatment Option: E-Eye
Mullers Optometrists now offer our patients a new technology in treating dry eyes – Innovative Pulsed Light Technology (IRPL) using the E-Eye device. E-Eye generates a series of light pulses that are precisely set to stimulate the meibomian glands in order for them to return to their normal function.
The E-Eye dry eye therapy consists of 3 sessions – Day 1, Day 14 and Day 45 lasting approximately 10-15 minutes a session. An eye mask is placed over your eyes and a gel is applied onto your cheeks, the device administers 5 flashes onto your eye and that is it – quick and pain free!
Your treatment is done in store at Mullers Claremont and Mullers Tygervalley branches in Cape Town. Contact us for more information or book an eye examination to find out if this treatment is the best option for you.
