A healthy retina as seen on an OCT scan

Mullers Optometrists strive to keep up to date with the latest technologies in eyecare, the OCT scanner improves our level of patient care immensely by assisting in earlier and more accurate diagnoses.

OCT or Optical Coherence Tomography is a non-invasive instrument that allows us to see a 3D or cross section of the retina. This aids us in the early detection of eye diseases such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy before symptoms appear. An OCT scan functions similarly to a CT scan using light waves to differentiate the layers of the retina.

The OCT scan gives us a comprehensive report as seen on the image to the left

The OCT scanner also examines the cornea in great detail which allows us to fit specialised contact lenses on irregular corneas with improved accuracy.

Your Optometrist, after examining your eyes, will refer you for an OCT scan at our Claremont practice if necessary. Book your eye examination at a branch located near you.
